If it is your primary email address you can't close. Nor can VM. It is tied to the sign on system. You always need the details for My Virginmedia. If it is a secondary address you can delete it yourself in My Virginmedia.
Different rules apply if it is a Blueyonder alias address. You can't delete those easily.
Just stop using addresses that can't be deleted.
