Close ntl world email account

I left virgin media last April. Both my wife and myself had ntlworld email accounts which had been hacked earlier in the year. On contacting virgin media I was told the easiest thing to do was to leave them as they would be deleted within 90 days of leaving. This has not happened and my wife’s is been used to send messages and photos to her contacts, some of whom are very elderly and have been very upset by this. I have contacted virgin media and been told they could do nothing about this and hopefully the might be closed some time in the future. I also emailed the MD and heated nothing. How do I close these accounts. Virgin media has just come to the area we moved to and I would not go back to them after this as there customer service seems to be nil.
