OK, so what error messages are you getting?
If you are getting these problems with an email app or client, can you send and receive emails using VM's webmail service? You can sign into that from here https://mail2.virginmedia.com/
The reason I am asking is that in many cases, issues with sending and receiving emails has nothing to do with a password problem even though you may be being prompted to enter your password. For example there may be problems with your email app or client rather than the VM email account itself. Also, in some cases VM lock emails account for security reasons. Checking whether or not you can use your VM email account via the VM webmail service helps to pinpoint the real underlying problem.
Having said that, resetting the password is always worth a try.

If you know the existing password sign in from this link https://my.virginmedia.com/home/signIn using your email address and existing password. That will take you to the relevant "My Virgin Media" account for that email address.
Then click on the "Update settings" tab and then the "Account details" tab. Scroll down that page and you will see a place to edit the password.
If you don't know the password you will have to try the Forgotten Password route, enter the email address into this screen https://www.virginmedia.com/my-virgin-media/forgotten-details/password and follow the prompts. Sadly that will only work if you have a password recovery question set.
Failing that, provided you are a VM broadband customer, the Forum Team (VM employees who support this forum) should be able to get the password reset for you. One of them will contact you in the next day or so and and take your details by Private Message.

Attempt to login to the Virgin Media web page using your email address and select the “forgotten password” link. You should then be presented with two security questions and, if you enter them correctly, then be allowed to enter a new password.
