Cannot connect to IMAP Server for email - increasing problems

Using Thunderbird.

I am getting increasing occurrences in the last few days where I cannot connect to IMAP server.

Message returned along the lines of "... you may have exceeded number of cached connections...."

Have reduced this in settings from 5 to 2 but this does not seem to make a difference,

Same here, using Thunderbird.

It is intermittent, but annoying.

Any response from VM staff???

Re: Cannot connect to IMAP Server for email - increasing problems

Hi there @davehich and @sneezy24,

Welcome along to our Community and for your first post davehich.

We were sorry to understand that you are having some issues with your emails currently. We do indeed reply to posts on our Forums as and when needed; however, we do allow our Community to step in and assist first. The Community Forums are here to assist each other first and foremost.

Is the issue only happening on that particular email client? Are you having any issue via webmail or via other email client?

Cheers

Re: Cannot connect to IMAP Server for email - increasing problems

For me, it was just Thunderbird, but I have had delays in the past with webmail (but there it just doesn't connect).

I have improved things by extending the timeout.

In Thunderbird, go to TOOLS - OPTIONS - Scr5ool down to CONFIG EDITOR - dismiss the warning.

Search for mailnews.tcptimeout and set the value to a higher number. I have currently got it at 250.

I've done this on both my PCs and it does seem to improve things, but not a complete fix.

Re: Cannot connect to IMAP Server for email - increasing problems

Thanks for replies.

It does seem to be OK now (this last 3 days) without me doing anything.

Re: Cannot connect to IMAP Server for email - increasing problems

The problem was primarily with Thunderbird, although a couple of times it seemed my Samsung tablet was also having problems synchronising.

Since 9th Aug the problems have disappeared.
