Can you unlink two NTL email accounts to cancel one of them?

Apologies galore if others have asked this many times but I would appreciate some clarification about changing/deleting my 20+ year (…….@ntlworld.com) email address.

I have used this email address from the outset ( you had to as the email account and contact email had to be the same then) but mainly only as my sole account contact email for NTL/VM and to use/open the MyVirginMedia app. Over the years I regularly changed the password etc.

After the wholesale NTL scamming outbreak in 2013 I still kept the account open because my wife has a second ntl email address as a subsidiary to mine. I just get a few scammer emails plus the monthly VM bill and offers now as I never use it.

I have just changed by VM account contact email to a safer account and that is fine. So, any future VM specific emails should now go to this.

I now want to cancel this old NTL email address and account but will this automatically cancel my wife’s email account as well? I am not sure whether these are now unlinked or not.

If not, then I will just keep my ntl email account open so my wife can continue to use her account.

If they are now unlinked can I just cancel my existing NTL account which will still leave my wife’s NTL account still?

Can anyone help?

You should be able to check that quite easily.

Sign into your Virgin Media Account, click on the "Account setting" box and then the "Account details" box.

Scroll down that Account details page to "Manage other My Virgin Media accounts".   You will then see a list of the email accounts that are linked to yours. If you wife's account is listed that means the accounts are linked,

"I now want to cancel this old NTL email address and account "

It sounds as if your VM email account is the Primary account for your VM broadband contract because that is where VM have been sending your monthly bill. That VM email address will still be the Primary email account even though you have changed your contact address to a non VM email account.

The last advice I have seen from VM staff is that It is not possible to delete a VM Primary email account. It seems that the VM system relies on the original Primary email account address being present for every live VM broadband account.

One of the Forum Team (VM staff) who support this forum will pick up your post in the next day or so. They will be able to check this out and give you the definitive answer.
