He probably would not but then again he has nothing to do with Virgin Media so don't expect any response from him. 😉

As I have said before, Virgin Media 02 is owned by Liberty Global not the Virgin Group.

The CEO of Virgin Media 02 is Lutz Schüler see here https://news.virginmediao2.co.uk/leadership It might be better to direct your tweets to him, (possibly 😉). I have seen his (alleged) email address online so I am sure you could find it with a bit of online searching.

However, bear in mind that like all the major broadband providers, VM no longer offers VM email accounts to new broadband customers and existing VM customers can no longer create new secondary VM email accounts.

So quite clearly VM do not see the provision of an email service as a major part of their offering going forward.

Taking that into account together with all the problems you are having with your VM email why don't you switch to one of the many excellent free email services offered by dedicated email providers?  Check some of them out here https://www.lifewire.com/best-free-email-accounts.

Personally, I have been a VM broadband and tv customer of VM for years and I am very happy with those services. However, I have never used their free email service as my main email account.

Hi @liz30538,

Thank you for your post and welcome back to our community forums. We're here to help.

I am so sorry to hear that you're experiencing some issues when attempting to send an email. What happens exactly when you try? Does an error message appear? Are you able to receive emails?

Along with this, can you confirm where/how you're using the email address and service? For example, are you using a third party mail client/app such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird?

Thanks,

Hi Zach

i use Microsoft mail I was able to send emails yesterday morning then I started getting an error message when I tried to send other emails it says ‘ cannot send mail the user name or password for my email address is incorrect’ I’ve changed my password on VM and on the mail app I’m able to receive emails but can’t send them This happens quite frequently and I sat on the phone yesterday for 45 minutes to be told to delete my mail app and reinstall it I know iCloud doesn’t back up your email messages and I’m concerned I will lose emails which I need

i also got a message on the virgin server yesterday
22:58 Fri 7 Oct saying

Looks like there's still an issue with your
connection
We're looking into it. Check back here after 23 hours and if there's still an issue we'll help you book a
technician but I can’t find it again and don’t really want to phone to book a technician

Spoke to someone sensible in VM today Apparently there was an outage yesterday in my area around the time when this started he said that most probably was the reason the emails wouldn’t send He talked me through deleting the ntl account and reinstalling it as Virgin Media All the emails have now come through and it looks like I can send messages again

however the outbox with 4 messages in it has completely disappeared and they have not been sent Any more help would be appreciated

It get worse after the service advisor did what he did my emails are only going back to 16 May 2022 The older emails are still on the virgin server but haven’t come through to my mail app VM advisor Amaan has raised an it ticket but if it’s the offshore technical team I’m not hopeful for a resolution so fed up with this situation It’s ridiculous that an outage could cause so many problems

Well that will be because any 'outage' (and that's assuming that it wasn't just something made up on the fly by whoever you spoke to just to get you off the phone, and the offshore call centre agents do have 'form' for doing this), would have been completely coincidental and wouldn't have impacted your email provision.

The fact is, as mentioned above, VM are slowly winding up their email provision, they no longer offer customers, old or new, the ability to create any email addresses, so just what priority do you think they will give to resolving issues such as yours and how many resources do you think they will allocate?

Now, I absolutely promise you that you will be posting on here every couple of weeks about your email stopping working, for the rest of your life - UNLESS, you actually bite the bullet, set yourself up with an alternative email provider (Outlook, Google, whatever) and migrate all of your services and contacts away from VM and onto the new provider. Personally I'd start doing this now rather than wait until the inevitable announcement that VM will be shutting their email service down entirely in 'x' weeks and there is a mad scramble by everyone, all at the last minute.

Oh and yes, contrary to what many believe, the bearded one has nothing whatsoever to do with the running of VM other than pocketing a yearly fee to allow them to use the Virgin branding - in fact he never has had!

Does anyone else know about this Is it true?

Incidentally the person I spoke to this morning was uk based and didn’t want to get me off the phone quickly He took a great deal of time to change me from ntlworld to virgin media on the mail app

I’ve lost track of the number of companies who have my ntlworld address it would be a nightmare to try and remember who to contact

if I change my email to gmail Will my iPad still remember the passwords in password manager

i don’t agree with your point that an outage would not cause a problem with emails It needs broadband to send these emails so any outage must affect that

If you are referring to the "outage" issue, well my question would be did VM specify what or where the outage was?

If it was simply that VM broadband went down in your area that would certainly have stopped you accessing your VM emails using your VM broadband. However, the fact the VM broadband service went down would not have impacted the VM email service itself. You would still have been able to send and receive VM emails using  your mobile provider's network on your iPhone (for example).  I did that myself a few weeks ago when VM were carrying out maintenance in my area.

On the other hand if the "outage" was the VM email system itself going down that would be a different matter.

By the way, the VM local service status line 080056 10061 is very good. It's much more reliable than the online service checker and gives you the up to date status of VM services in your local area.

If you are referring to VM's recent change of direction regarding their email service, well you obviously did not read my post to you on this thread (7/10/2022) where I said

"....bear in mind that like all the major broadband providers, VM no longer offers VM email accounts to new broadband customers and existing VM customers can no longer create new secondary VM email accounts.

So quite clearly VM do not see the provision of an email service as a major part of their offering going forward."

VM state that in the second paragraph of their Webmail helpsheet    https://www.virginmedia.com/help/billing-and-payments/manage-email-account    So you can check that out for yourself.

VM have not said anything about their exact plans for the future of their email service  but with no new VM email accounts being created its long term future has to be in doubt as the number of subscribers inevitably dwindles. Sky stopped issuing new sky.com addresses a few years ago and their email service is now part of Yahoo Mail. Maybe VM will do something similar.

It's also worth bearing in mind that broadband providers did not offer their customers free email accounts out of the goodness of their hearts. In VM's case, if you switch from VM to another broadband provider you will only have 90 days use of your VM email accounts before VM deletes them. That's part of  VM's Broadband account terms and conditions.

So by offering free email accounts they were hoping to discourage customers from moving to another broadband provider because of the added hassle of having to change your email address. Sadly. I'm thinking their strategy has worked a treat in your case.

I have always been happy with VM's broadband and TV service but I have never used their email as my main email account. I did change my main (non VM) email account a few years ago. That was because I had used the same (non VM)  email account for business and personal emails for 15+ years and once I retired I decided I needed a fresh start.

My experience was that changing email addresses was not as traumatic as I thought it would be.  I kept both email accounts running for a few months and gradually transitioned all my online accounts to my new address. In the process I discovered I had many online accounts with organisations I had not used for years so it was a good opportunity to get shot of them.

As a final thought, VM's email offering is a pretty basic service and not as reliable or secure as the services offered by more dedicated email providers such as Gmail and Outlook.com. With VM's latest announcement regarding their email service, I would suggest that it's unrealistic to assume that VM are going to make any major investment in it to improve it or provide better support for it.

It’s very strange but the mail app I use says it’s Apple mail would it be worth contacting Apple They seem to give a lot more help than VM

My older emails have now come back but my outbox has still gone with the 4 emails in it that wouldn’t send Any suggestions
