Can’t forward emails to ntlworld or virginmedia

Hi, I have a domain on Webhosting UK and I forward email from that domain to virginmedia. However recently this forwarding has stopped working and mails sent to my domain get bounced (I’ve replaced the actual domain with xxxxxx in the below) whether I forward to my original ntlworld.com address or a new virginmedia.com address

xxxxxxxx@virginmedia.com
   (ultimately generated from virginmedia@xxxxxxxx.co.uk)
   host mx.tb.ukmail.iss.as9143.net [212.54.56.11]
   retry timeout exceeded

Or

xxxxxxxxxx@ntlworld.com
   (ultimately generated from ntlworld@xxxxxxxx.co.uk)
   all hosts for 'ntlworld.com' have been failing for a long time (and retry time not reached

When Webhosting UK try to telnet they see:

=============
# telnet ntlworld.com 25
Trying 213.105.9.42...
telnet: connect to address 213.105.9.42: Connection timed out
=============

and they ask “
We have now whitelisted this IP address on server firewall and would suggest you to check at ntlworld.com's end and check if they are blocking emails from the server IP address "92.48.93.9". If so then you can ask them to remove the blocks and your emails should forward fine.”

can you help?

Re: Can’t forward emails to ntlworld or virginmedia

Hello

One thing to note is that the virginmedia domains i.e. ntlworld, virgin.net etc dont use port 25 so the test that they have done is invalid, hence why it is timing out.

Regards Mike

Re: Can’t forward emails to ntlworld or virginmedia

So should they be trying to telnet mx.tb.ukmail.iss.as9143.net on port 25 instead?

Re: Can’t forward emails to ntlworld or virginmedia

telnet destination should be smtp.ntlworld.com, not ntlworld.com

Re: Can’t forward emails to ntlworld or virginmedia

It appears the hostname was incorrect in the sending server’s /etc/mailhelo file causing virginmedia to drop the connection :

this is now fixed
