Blueyonder email taking a very long time to connect to receive

Hello.

I have a Virgin account with three Blueyonder email addresses.

Two addresses work fine.

The other takes a very long time to connect to the server to download emails (5 minutes+ and sometimes fails).

When it does finally connect, it downloads the emails no problem.

I am using Thunderbird although have tried this using Windows Live Mail and the same problem occurs.

Settings:

pop3.virginmedia.com

SSL/TLS

Port 995

Authentication is 'normal password'.

Sending is not a problem.

Very strange as like I say: the other two accounts work fine.

Thanks.

Re: Blueyonder email taking a very long time to connect to receive

Consider signing into webmail, reviewing Inbox folder and then either move or delete the content in case it is causing an issue.

FYI: select ☰ (located next to Inbox) and then from the pop-up menu either;

  • Archive to move email older than 90 day into archive folders (automatically subdivided by year)
  • Move all messages
  • Delete all messages

Re: Blueyonder email taking a very long time to connect to receive

Looking at similar posts on this forum, I think my problem is related to those.

My other email accounts don't have any messages archived etc and they still work.

Sounds like it's something more fundamental.

Question - Why would the server treat one account differently?
Answer - It wouldn't.

How are you accessing your mails POP3 or IMAP?

POP3 was mentioned in initial post.

@用心棒 That's what I get for not paying attention. 😋 thanks for pointing it out.

@otronics - I do suggest that you look at @用心棒 post and follow his advice.  If you check your inbox in your mail program, are any mails duplicated?  POP3 does have a known problem whereby if a poorly crafted mail ends up in the inbox on the server, it can cause a POP3 download to fail.  In that event any mails you get before the offending mail will be duplicated in your mail programs inbox, but WON'T be duplicated on the server when you check in webmail.

Re: Blueyonder email taking a very long time to connect to receive

Thanks for the messages everyone.

It is working again.

I've not actually done anything so it must have been a Virgin problem.
