Authentication error on additional email address

Hi, I have set up a second email address on my account. When I log into Virgin Media email I only see emails relating my main account, but when I use my ipad or iphone to view emails I can see both accounts, as expected.

On Virgin Media, in Settings / Accounts, I see this error message against the additional email address - "the entered credential or authentication information does not work or are no longer accepted by the provider". I have tried retyping the password (I know it is the correct password as it works fine with my ipad/iphone). I also noticed that the additional email address has nothing showing in the STANDARD FOLDERS section of the account details, and I cannot enter any details there. Maybe that is correct, or maybe it is a contributory factor, I don't know.

Any ideas how I can make Virgin Media show both email accounts.

Many thanks

Re: Authentication error on additional email address

What happens if you log in directly to the new account in webmail?  You will need to make sure you sign out of your other account first, then go to https://mail2.virginmedia.com/ and entrer the new accounts username and password.

Does the account show correctly then?

Re: Authentication error on additional email address

Hi Graham, yes, when I log on under the additional email address I can see messages for that email. Is that helpful? I really want to see both accounts together under my main email address.

Thanks

Tony

Re: Authentication error on additional email address

Helpful in that it proves the additional account is correctly set up under your My Virgin Media account.

You need to go back into the webmail page for your main account and double check that you have entered all the correct server settings for the additional address when adding it as extra email account.

The settings should be:

IMAP4 Settings

IMAP4 server name

imap.virginmedia.com

IMAP4 SSL

Enabled

IMAP4 port

993

IMAP4 authentication

Enabled (or 'Password' on Macs)

IMAP4 username

Full email address, for example, richard.branson@virginmedia.com

Note: If you update your username in My Virgin Media, this email address will not change.

IMAP4 SPA (Secure Password Authentication)

Disabled

SMTP Settings

SMTP server name

smtp.virginmedia.com

SMTP SSL

Enabled

SMTP port

465

SMTP authentication

Enabled (or 'Password' on Macs)

SMTP username

Full email address, for example, richard.branson@virginmedia.com

Note: If you update your username in My Virgin Media, this email address will not change.

Re: Authentication error on additional email address

Thanks, the settings are as follows

Incoming Server :

TYPE = IMAP

NAME = imap.virginmedia.com

CONNECTION SECURITY = None

SERVER PORT = 143

USERNAME & PASSWORD

Outgoing server (SMTP)

NAME = smtp.virginmedia.com

CONNECTION SECURITY = None

SERVER PORT = 587

AUTHENTICATION = As incoming e-mail server

USERNAME & PASSWORD

STANDARD FOLDERS are all blank, and when I click "Select" there are no options to select any items.

Re: Authentication error on additional email address

The ports you have listed for both IMAP and SMTP are incorrect.

Re: Authentication error on additional email address

@ABS123

Connection security also needs to be set to SSL/TLS rather than none.

All of this is set out in my second post - did you read it?

Re: Authentication error on additional email address

Hi Graham,

I read it but didn't quite understand what you were telling me. Now I get it. That seems to have worked.

Thanks very much to you both.
