Are you still a Virginmedia Broadband customer ?
If you not then I am afraid that you are not entitled to use a virginmedia email address as per T&C, all the staff can do is make sure that it is deleted.
If you are a customer is the email address attached to your account you can check at https://my.virginmedia.com/my-profile/listUsers
If the email address has been deleted then it can never be used again, due to data protection. Virgin.net email addresses should have been deleted after 1yr of the closure of the dial up connection.
