451:451 too many errors detected from your IP 80.0.253.69

I received a delivery failure message with the error message originating from the system at free.fr

The remote server returned the below error when attempting delivery:

451:451 too many errors detected from your IP (80.0.253.69), please visit http://postmaster.free.fr/

On checking the IP address at the postmaster website it gives:

IP 80.0.253.69 is blacklisted for 71184s (too many errors (unexisting recipients, broken connections), testing)

IP 80.0.253.69 is identified as know-smtprelay-omc-5.server.virginmedia.net

Is this a problem with Virgin Media server and how will this be resolved?

The IP Address 80.0.253.69 was blocked for 71184s (19 hours 46 minutes and 24 seconds). Is it still blocked?

The server IP at 80.0.253.69 is still blacklisted at SORBS.

I tried re-sending the email and had the same result, so still blocked.

I have now tried sending the email using my Gmail account, so will see if this succeeds.

It will work. Different outgoing servers.

Hi there ChasK,

Can I ask whether you get the email delivery failure message when sending to a particular email or does it happen when you send to others via webmail?

Thanks,

Lisa

Re: 451:451 too many errors detected from your IP [REMOVED]

It has only happened on this one email address which has previously worked fine. Other emails send OK but this is the only one recently that is going to .fr France. I have since sent the email message to the same address using gmail and have received no error messages and await a reply from the recipient assuming it has been received OK.

Re: 451:451 too many errors detected from your IP [REMOVED]

@Lisa_CC

The error message in the OP indicates that the mail server was rejected.

80.0.253.69 - Is one of the outbound mail servers based at Knowsley.  As such the user would normally be able to send by webmail (except in specific cicumstances)

Checking the link in the OP -

http://postmaster.free.fr/

Gives you the ability to enter the IP address.

At which point we see this

Is my IP blocked ?

IP 80.0.253.69 is blacklisted for 67763s (too many errors (unexisting recipients, broken connections), testing)
That's a worrying finding as it would suggest that someone is using VM's email servers to send spam.

That needs escalating.

Re: 451:451 too many errors detected from your IP [REMOVED]

Thanks @ravenstar68 🙂  I've had a chat with Kev about this and understand what is happening with ChasK's issue. Kev's asked our Support Team to investigate this and we'll post back on this thread with an update.

Thanks,

Lisa
