How to Solve HDCP 2.2 Error

Hi,

I thought I would post this just incase it may help somone in the future. If you recently had a new V6 box installed  which is connected though an AVR you may get an HDCP 2.2 compatibility message on your screen with  black screen. However if you connect the box directly to the TV you will find it works fine.

To overcome this issue and to get your V6 box working again though your home cinema, you will need to buy a HDMI splitter box which should be connected in between the V6 box and your AMP.

Give this a try if your having this probelm and hope it helps.

This worked for me.

Thanks

Re: How to Solve HDCP 2.2 Error

even more help would be to name the made & model of the splitter which worked for you - that trick only works with some splitters

Re: How to Solve HDCP 2.2 Error

Just remember if you are using HDMI, I'd also make sure that all of your cables are HDMI High Speed.

Some of the older 'Standard Speed' cables may cause issues with 4K and HDCP 2.2 (and aren't actually rated as being able to support them).

Re: How to Solve HDCP 2.2 Error

Re: How to Solve HDCP 2.2 Error

I have tried a standard HDMI splitter and this did not work for me.

My setup maybe a little different.

V6 - Denon X7200WA Amp (HDMI2 and HDCP 2.2) - 4K DHCP Samsung TV (Main), Samsung HD TV (non DHCP (Zone2)

Intermittent issues with HDMI splitter - sometimes pictures / mostly not

I have purchased a HDCP 2.2 to 1.4 convertor, this has fixed the problem for my second TV

There are so many threads on this - could the VM community admins consider making this / the issue / solution a sticky:

Re: How to Solve HDCP 2.2 Error

I had this error with my new V6 box when I connected it via my Onkyo TX-NR555 amp's three HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI ports. However it works fine if I connect it to one of the other three regular (non 2.2) ports. Go figure.

Not sure what will happen when I install a new 4K HDR TV next week though - I'm guessing that the 2.2 ports might be preferable for that model?

Re: How to Solve HDCP 2.2 Error

Just as a follow-on, I assume that once I have my new OLED TV installed (so both the TV and the amp are fully HDCP 2.2 compliant) the chain should work correctly, and 4K pass-through will be supported?

i.e. the current problem is that the amp tells the V6 that it is 2.2 compliant, and so a 2.2 connection is negotiated between the V6 and the amp, but then the TV is found to be NOT 2.2 capable and the chain falls over at that stage (as the amp must now require 2.2 forwarding). This would be why connecting the V6 directly to my current TV, or via one of the amp's non-2.2 ports, simply negotiates a lower spec connection anyway and thus it works fine.

Is my general understanding of the issue correct?

Just to answer my own question as I hate to post and run... Yes, once I'd connected my new HDCP 2.2 complaint TV onto my already-compliant Onkyo amp, the whole chain now works fine on the 2.2 HDMI ports, no more error messages or picture shutdowns.

Re: How to Solve HDCP 2.2 Error

A number of reviews of this much cheaper box say that it works fine with the v6:
