Re: 0845 - Rip Off

[ Edited ]

Yes and they not only charge 10p a minute they charge a connection fee of 11p each time as well.  That is a ripp off

And their unlimited calls package should not be called unlimited ... its not  ... its unlimited upto 60mins thats not unlimited.  Although you can put the phone down and redial but how many people are going to do that.

and thats as long as you dont want to call ... any of these because they are not included.

Our plans don't include:

  • Calls to non Virgin mobiles – calls to Virgin mobiles are included in your allowance
  • Calls to international numbers
  • Calls to premium rate UK numbers (they usually start 09). These calls are usually charged between 9.6p and £1.50 per minute or they may have a flat fee charge of up to £1.50. Please see Virgin Phone Calling Costs for further information.
  • Calls to non geographic numbers (they usually start 0845, 0870 etc). Charges to these numbers are:

Re: 0845

If you are spending loads of money on calls why not switch to an inclusive package with Virgin?  I spend £9.00pm extra and get 200 minutes that includes mobiles and the 0845/0870 numbers?  Think it's called Talk Anywhere but you can also have 400/800 minutes.  You can call up and find out approx how many minutes you have left without needing to speak to a operator and if you get a fault and cannot use your phone, then you always have the option of having it booked on this forum.

As for Virgin changing the charge band for these numbers why should they?  It's not their fault that all the Government offices use these numbers.  VM are run for profit not charity, harsh as that may seem it's the reality of it.

They may be run for a profit, but there is a difference between profit and profiteering

Re: 0845

Ouch...........!!!!!!!!!

I'm really struggling / juggling with my finances since suffering an illness and I've used an 0845 number.

I know BT charge 1p and 2p per minute but i've just checked my phone bill and have just over 120 minutes with 0845 number and its racked up to just short of £12 exc VAT with Virgin.

Does anyone know why Virgin are so much dearer for calling Non-Geographical Numbers.

Re: 0845

Virgin Media have stated over the years they use their rip-off call costs as their cash-cow.

Re: 0845

At risk of resurrecting an old thread.

This is the reason why I got broadband only and refuse the land line even though it's *only* 2.50 extra per month.

I use skype. It works out cheaper in the long run.

BT is a good option but everytime I call them for anything I get reminded how I don't like waiting 20+min to talk to someone reading off a flow diagram.

BE/O2 looks good though!

Re: 0845

Hi NumbersGame....

Got me thinking there.... :smileywink:

Telphone line rental 08 Jan - 07 Feb £12.24

This is what I'm billed and there's a discount on the charges to bring my monthly service

bill down to £29.99 as I don't have the TV box. Broadband on its own is £15.25 I think 3 months then £20.25..

If I paid the £14.74 / £9.74 into skype or even took a mobile deal on one of the blackberries I'd be better off... :smileysurprised: I'm not a big phone user evenings and weekends and hardly ever use the free weekends so I really should give customer services a call and make some changes...

The only thing that kind of makes me think here about dropping the phone line is when there's a powercut having the phone line means i can at least use dial-up on 0845 << :robotmad:

Re: 0845

I use Vyke and a couple of the Betamax VoIP providers to keep call costs down, have done so for several years.

Re: 0845

you can use this number 08009535353

just let it go to the end of the bla bla even if they say you have to dial  0845 for faults, it will still connect you as a 0800 (beside on mobile you may be charge) :smileymad:

Of course you have dial 151 free from your Virgin phone  .... but the line not working this is comical.

Best of luck
