How can I get advanced dns settings? Called helpline and they had no idea how to do this.
Do you mean Advanced network error search; If so, you will need to call Virgin Media to turn it off.

i have an advanced DNS issue. I get a timed out error 'Connection attempt timed out (nc.windows.app.23704). My help desk advised me to ring virginmedia and opt out of my advanced DNS setting. I did this on Monday but the fault still exists
I find it odd that your help desk did not suggest changing your DNS to troubleshoot the issue; if appropriate, following the instructions here to change your DNS temporarily.
