5X hub with poor WiFi, pods repeatedly cancelled

After 17 wasted days of back and forth on the VM WhatsApp, and WiFi pods ordered and then cancelled without notification, we are quite frustrated. I tried to add this to a 5X thread earlier but it appears to have not saved.

My sister moved from BT and Sky poor internet to the new Virgin 1gb internet on 4 November, with the promise that we could get upto 3 free WiFi pods with the contract. 

After the fourth WhatsApp discussion earlier, the agent told me we had been given a 5X hub rather than a normal hub, and that the reason they had twice cancelled my pod order without telling me is because they may not be compatible with the 5x hub... They put in a complaint about the miscommunication and said they would cancel the pod, and to phone their Concern team, who have a 5X specialist team that maybe able to help. We had no idea we had been a hub that wasn't yet properly set up to work, the signal downstairs is very poor.

While looking on here after, and others having similar issues, at least one user said they insisted on getting one of the pods, and it had helped with their WiFi...

So, incredibly frustrated and feel we have been missold the product, now just outside the cooling off period.

We are on a budget, and can't afford expensive mesh systems, and don't have the technical expertise of most on here, we just want good internet strength around the house, it should not be that difficult!

I would not want to buy a Powerline set for example if we don't know for sure it would be compatible with the hub...any suggestions if I'm not able to get some pods sent when I call tomorrow?

The more difficult question is do the VM Pods work with the Hub 5x ?  Reading this forum there is first a huge run around  by VM to get VM Pods then when the arrive they do not work with the Hub 5x & Customer Services have no clue as to how to resolve the matter. Maybe this is why the VM Pods are not being supplied to you.

I would plump for the Powerline extender or a retail MESH in AP mode / Wireless Repeater ( e.g. RE450 / AC1750 or similar ) all of these will be fine with the Hub 5x.   Buy from Amazon, follow the instruction to the letter and if you are not content you can always return.

Thanks for the reply and the Powerline option was my next choice. On one of the 5x threads though, other users have said the pods do work for them now, it seems the agents have all been given different or contradictory information.

"the pods do work for them now" -  Hmm. How many hours of support call pain did that take !

We can pick up a similar dual band Wi-Fi repeater device in Argos for about £25 and have it operating in 10 mins.
