Virgin/T-Mobile & iPhone settings

Out of the blue, and for the first time in 3 years a message popped up on my iPhone asking if I wanted to install the latest carrier settings.  After doing so I am now able to send MMS for the first time (yippee), T-Mobile UK 7.1 is showing as my carrier and the APN screen appears to have disappeared.  There's also a new button which takes me to a T-Mobile site.

I know Virgin uses the T-Mobile network, but has something else changed recently which resulted in the alert? Did anyone else get the same?

Re: Virgin/T-Mobile & iPhone settings

Hello i too got the update message on my iphone ,so i updated , and as a result could no longer access the internet or get my emails on my iphone , contacted customer support who said as virgin do not support the iphone ,the only advice they could give was stick my virgin sim in a phone that they support, but as the phone that came with the contract broke , and i had paid over £500 for an officialy unlocked by apple iphone was not happy , in the end had to restore my iphone to factory settings and reconnect to itunes  ,which then informed me of the carrier settings update which this time i declined and can now enter my own apn settings and now have access to internet ,to be honest cant wait for my contract to end so that  i can find a network that is prepared to help

What has changed recently is that T-Mobile have started to do the iPhone 4. So I'm guessing that the iOS now recognises it as a supported network

Because Virgin use the T-Mobile network some phones misread the SIM as T-Mobile, so will offer settings for that.

So this seems to be more Apples doing that either T-Mobiles or Virgins
