Re: Data speeds

I got in touch with Virgin Media via Twitter last night & received this reply about the speed capping 'trial':

https://twitter.com/virginmedia/status/309944695298072577

Me: @virginmedia Could you tell me when VMobile's data speed cap 'trial' will end please? I'd rather stay with you, but getting tricky now :smileysad:

VM: You should get a letter soon explaining details. We want you to stay with us too, but unfortunately it's a change we have to make. ED

So, it would appear this really is no trial. Perhaps the letter they're going to send out will say that more clearly.

It's a shame, because I really would like to remain on VMobile, but this really is making things difficult. :smileysad:

Re: Data speeds

Hi all,

We’re still working hard to resolve the network issues customers have been seeing, where customers are getting intermittent or no internet access, and problems with apps not working.

Our network partner EE have removed certain network controls to see whether this can help to pinpoint the issue. This has included temporarily removing the speed cap.

We really need to know if anyone is still experiencing issues with poor connectivity today – i.e. Internet not working despite seeing the 3G/H+ symbol on your phone, web sites not loading, apps not working, etc.

If you are, please private message me your phone number and a description of the problem so we can pass this onto EE to investigate further.

Many thanks.

Re: Data speeds

[ Edited ]

the two things might not be connected but there is a sense of irony. They have no speed cap and no one is complaining about not been able to access data etc.

they introduce a speed cap to make sure everyone can access data and relieve congestion and create a situation where people are struggling to access data and create appeared congestion.

maybe its just me but i find all that slightly ironic

Re: Data speeds

Ah man, so this lift is just temporary!? I was happy again this morning and thought 'nice one VM, u've just saved yourself a customer!' but now I'm peeved again.
I really don't want to have to move networks, but no point in paying for something that is not fit for purpose I guess. Even if they sort out the connectivity issues, 2mb is just not enough... may consider staying if the cap is raised to something sensible like 5 or 6 (with a sensible upload speed too)

Re: Data speeds

No problems with timeouts today, getting 4mb roughly so that's maybe why

Re: Data speeds

Re: Data speeds

Huge difference this morning in connection reliability, my phone actually feels like a smartphone again!!

Was just about to cancel my contract as this past two weeks has felt as if completely pointless attempting to use the Internet on your network.  Even basic tasks such as browsing the Internet / email were near on impossible leaving the handset crippled

For about .2 of a second you had full speed then it was as if your phone had just run into a brick wall and your download speed was completely stopped to compensate for that .2 seconds at full speed.

Speed Test Before Today : http://goo.gl/1g18f

Speed Test this Morning   : http://goo.gl/B3ipo

No one likes traffic shaping but if you absolutely have no choice then why not trigger it for large downloads lasting greater than 15-20seconds during busy periods, thus leaving normal web browsing and users unaffected
