Changing my standard SIM card for a micro SIM one

Hi there,

I currently have a Pay Monthly contract with the lovely people here at Virgin. This pays for the phone and the calls, texts, data etc.

What I want to know is, will I be able to get a micro-SIM card sent out to me (preferably self-activation while I wait for my phone to arrive), and if so, will I have to pay for the upgrade?

Any help will be much appreciated, plus if this post seems like it has already been answered, feel free to redirect me to the right place. Smiley Happy

Thanks in advance!

Luke

Re: Changing my standard SIM card for a micro SIM one

Hi Luke Smiley Happy

Thanks for coming back to me.

As the phone you'll be purchasing isn't from us, you would need to pay a charge for the sim. This would cost £2.99 with Royal Mail 1st Class postage. Or £7.99 next day delivery.

You can order a sim with us as self activation or automatically activated.

Give us a call on 789 or 0345 6000 789 and we'll get this sorted for you.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks,

Mat

Re: Changing my standard SIM card for a micro SIM one

Hi Luke.

Welcome to the forums! Smiley Happy

If the phone is upgraded through us, you wont have to pay for the new sim.

If the sim is being purchased on it's own, you would be charged for this.

Our team can get this all sorted for you. Give them a call on 789 or 0345 6000 789 and we'll get on the case.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks,

Mat

Re: Changing my standard SIM card for a micro SIM one

Hi Mat,

Sorry; should have been more specific. I'm planning to purchase a Samsung Galaxy S4 elsewhere, hence why I wanted the smaller version of the SIM card. To recap, here's what I wanna know:

1. As the SIM card originally came from you guys, am I right in thinking that I can get the new micro-SIM for free?

and

2. If so, is it as simple as popping that new micro-SIM in the S4, self-activating it and all that jazz, and then everything will be hunky dory?

If you can confirm these, that'll be awesome. Oh, and thanks for the warm welcome! Smiley Happy

Luke

Re: Changing my standard SIM card for a micro SIM one

Hi Mat Smiley Happy

Thanks for the advice, and apologies for not getting back to you sooner; I've a busy life. Smiley Very Happy

Everything seems to be working just fine. I decided to 'splash the cash' and go for the Samsung Galaxy S5 instead, and it hasn't disappointed me at all. The micro-SIM arrived a day earlier than was quoted, and the bloke on the other end of the phone was extremely helpful and pleasant to talk to. Great service as usual from you folk at Virgin. Smiley Happy

If you could let the guy on the other end of the phone now he has my thanks, that'll be awesome.

Thanks again!

Re: Changing my standard SIM card for a micro SIM one

Just to semi-hijack the thread, if I may.

I have a 12 month sim-only deal with VM at the moment. The sim card I currently have is standard size. I'm inheriting my daughter's Samsung Galaxy S3 which requires a "hybrid SIM that can be used in Micro and Nano SIM phones." I understand from the early responses in this thread that I can buy the sim I need from VM for £2.99 including first class postage, which is fine.

My question is this. Will I continue to be able to use the normal size sim in my old phone once I have activated the hybrid sim in the Galaxy SIII. Obviously, the number will be the same for each Sim. Thanks.

Re: Changing my standard SIM card for a micro SIM one

Hi peterfoster

Thanks for your post Smiley Happy

We can get a new SIM card sent out for you and this is usually free if you're changing SIM type with an optional £2.99 charge if you'd like next day delivery.

You can only ever have one SIM card active on your account at any one time though, so if we replace your current SIM this would become inactive and could no longer be used.

We can get the SIM card changed back to the standard size in the future for you though if this was required Smiley Happy

To get the replacement SIM ordered, just give us a call on 789 / 0345 600 0789 and we'll get on the case.

Let us know how you get on with it.

Many thanks

Re: Changing my standard SIM card for a micro SIM one

You guys are fantastic!

OK I tried to cut down my sim to micro sim and guess what? Yup didn't work.

So I phoned the number and ordered one. The nice lady asked if my current sim was OK and of course I explained it didn't work no more.

So she's sending a micro sim free of charge!!! Smiley Very Happy

my broadband's brilliant too.

Thanks Virgin from a very satisfied customer
