Re: My blueyonder e-mail gets bounced back with an error message

Hi David

It can take Virgin a few days to get to posts.  Posting duplicate threads does not get your problem resolved any quicker.

Looking at your posts, the second one looks odd, have you editted the domain?

Re: My blueyonder e-mail gets bounced back with an error message

No. I've copied/pasted as it appeared.  I've just had a Live Chat session with a VM help desk and after quite some time I'm really nowhere closer to resolving this. VM says its the mail programmes that I am using, Thunderbird on one and Oulook on a separate laptop but both started getting the the same bounce back oin the same day yet the on-line chat showed that none of these messages was appearing at the webmail VM site-most strange.

Thanks for your response. I thought it had all gone into a black hole!!

Regards

David

Re: My blueyonder e-mail gets bounced back with an error message

Can you look at the email headers on the bounce message.

Look for the following.

X-SourceIP:

I need to take a look at the IP address that's involved here.

Re: My blueyonder e-mail gets bounced back with an error message

Hi and many thanks for your response.

Its a bit difficult to access those reject e-mails just at the mpoment/

The reason as follows.  On Saturday I spent quite a lot of time with trhe "On-Line" VM help desk.  In fact three separate sessions.  The first session saw the help desk have temporary control of my laptop, search my VM Webmail site and declare that there was no "bounceback" e-mails so the problem "must" be with the Client E-Mail programmes used.  I did point out that there were two separate ones involved and they threw their legs in the air at the same time so why was that -????

However my so, who is much more IT savvy than me, then also had a chat session and that resulted in finding all the test e-mails being tucked away in spam folders.  We now can send e-mails to each other without getting the "rejection Status notification" but they always go into the spam folder.  A third On-Line chat session saw the help desk elevate the enquiry up to their second level team (Why is VM marking all its own e-mails as spam).

Their response was to advise us to stop using the Client E-Mail programmes for 24 hours and that would allow the problem to be cleared.

So I am going to not use either client e-mail programmes for a few days and then I'll go back in and see whats happening.

So hopefully the problem will go away.  If however it does not I will gladly troll through the Failure Not ification e-mails and send them to you.

But lets hope I dont need to do that.

In the meantime thank you very much for your attention on this matter.

Best Regards

David

Re: My blueyonder e-mail gets bounced back with an error message

I don't need the full emails just the IP address the failure message came from.

I have a feeling I know what is happening, seeing the IP address of the failure message will allow me to confirm this.  (I don't like to just assume).  You don't need to use a client to do this.  If you open the message in Webmail and select "View source" from the action menu you'll see the line I referred to.

It will start with 80.0.253.x or 81.104.62.x

Ravenstar68

Edit - BTW telling you not to use the client program for 24 hours is IMHO a cop out.  If the cause is what I think it is, action is needed somewhere for this problem to be resolved.

Thats 4 different ones from my e-mails, I'm sure my wifes will be much the same-Hope this helps with your deliberations.

Maybe worth noting that none of these appeared in the Virgin webmail programme, as they were marked as spam, they never got through.

Now I seem to be able to receive/send OK from the webmail but haven't tried the Client e-mail programme yet perhaps I'll try later.

Many thanks for yourhelp

Regards

David

Re: My blueyonder e-mail gets bounced back with an error message

Hi - OK - I've had a look at the messages and  all the messages appear to have the same last line in them:-

X-Source IP 81.104.62.43

Hope this helps.

Re: My blueyonder e-mail gets bounced back with an error message

Your post does highlight an issue I'm looking into.

For some reason you are triggering an anti spam measure on Virgin's outbound servers.  That in turn is causing the mail to be flagged as spam by Virgin's inbound servers.

@Jen_A can you take a look at this when you get the chance?

davidmadd can you tak a look at this post here

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Ravenstar-s-Email-FAQ-s/m-p/2526419/highlight/true#M129652 and check if your home IP appears on any blacklists OTHER than the PBL or DHUL (these two list IP's that are dynamically allocated rather than IP's that are sending spam).

Re: My blueyonder e-mail gets bounced back with an error message

Hi davidmadd,

Sorry that you're having this issue with email lately. I'm glad though that you've come to our Forum for help and have been afforded the expert attention of ravenstar.

I just need the header of the failed sent mail so that I can flag to Postmaster.

Please reply to my PM (purple envelope icon, top right of page) and I'll get this progressed.

Thanks Smiley Happy

@ravenstar68 - I understand what you're pointing to and am not ignoring that. I aim to get the Spam Content Found error escalated as per... and then I'll query the other issue with Postmaster. This isn't the first one of this type I've come across.
