Download old messages to email client

Apologies if this request has been previously made - I did a quick search and didn't find an answer.

How can I download all messages currently on the server at Virgin to my Outlook client? I recently had to reinstall Windows and now Outlook only downloads the previous 2 weeks of messages. There are older messages on the server that I want to store on my PC.but I can't see a setting to control this.

Can anyone assist me with this please? Thanks.

Re: Download old messages to email client

Hi awilson,

No need to apologise. This question may have been asked before but could have been years ago, so easier to ask now and get a fresh answer Smiley Happy

You'll need to set up your client, Outlook, with IMAP, as opposed to POP, as your incoming server.

Settings are:

Receiving mail (IMAP4)

  • IMAP4 server name - imap.ntlworld.com
  • IMAP4 SSL - Enabled
  • IMAP4 port - 993
  • IMAP4 authentication - Enabled (or 'Password' on Macs)
  • IMAP4 username - Full email address, e.g., richard.branson@ntlworld.com
  • IMAP4 SPA (Secure Password Authentication) - Disabled

And, just in case, here are the outgoing settings:

Sending mail (SMTP)

  • SMTP server name - smtp.ntlworld.com
  • SMTP SSL - Enabled
  • SMTP port - 465
  • SMTP authentication - Enabled (or 'Password' on Macs)
  • SMTP username - Full email address, e.g., richard.branson@ntlworld.com

This should do what you require, but it's advisable to log in to webmail and check what emails are currently sitting in the Inbox as it is these that will download to your pc.

Let us know if this helps. If you do need further assistance we'll be happy to get back to you Smiley Happy
