Re: Changes to Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

I've actually received this email twice today.

Once to my @blueyonder address and the other to my virginmedia address. Both  addresses used are my primary/default email addresses.

I use Google Earth, but have never had to provide contact details directly and even if I had, I would never use my primary address - and anyway, why would I give them both???!!!

This has not being done with my consent.

Must be time for some honest answers.

Re: Changes to Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

I have the same issue here. Each of my ntlworld email addresses has been sent the message from Google, but only one of them, used for iGoogle and Google maps, should be known to Google.

What does this mean for the privacy of the content of our e-mails?

Re: Changes to Goggle Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

I understand the comments in the thread about privacy but the bland facts are whatever we may think we are Goggle customers, we use the Goggle Gmail servers in the same way as any other Goggle user would

The only difference is the email extension ( Virginmedia not Gmail) so when Goggle send out a update to terms and conditions of course we will get it as it effects us as Goggle users

So as VM have sub contracted their email to Goggle they are bound to included us in their mail update as to them we are Goggle users

The same applies to TiVo they know even more about us

When a company sub contract its services to another provider, then of course some details need to be shared

I would worry more about what you share on social network sites, soon everybody will know everything about anybody :smileysurprised:

Re: Changes to Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

What is even stranger is that they only seem to have sent this to addresses @ Virgin and its predecessors.  It was sent to my ntlworld address (which nobody except Virgin Media has), but not to my Googlemail address which I have to use on my Android phone) or my two private addresses which are signed up to Google services!

In a word, No. I am not a google customer, no more that I am a customer of whichever company VM uses to pull cables, no more than I am a customer of Cisco or Pace or the people who provide VM's stationery. Their subcontractors are their business, not mine.

They must have no more access to nor use of my personal information than the strict minimum required to fulfil their defined role as subcontractor. So in Google's case, that does not extend to cross-referencing my personal info across all their spheres of activity - which is what their new 'privacy' policy allows for.

Re: Changes to Goggle Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

"In a word, No. I am not a goggle customer,"

But you are a Goggle "user" as when you send a email from your VM email address you do it via the Goggle email system, so you are using Goggle irrespective of the fact you are not using a Gmail email address

So as this email as to be sent to all Goggle "users" to inform them of a change to privacy setting you have to get one as it effects you, as a Goggle "user" :smileyhappy:

Re: Changes to Goggle Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

so by your definition I am also a Cisco user (since they make half the kit over which my email necessarily travels). And that makes me subject to Cisco's privacy policy.

Again, No, and No. I am neither a Cisco user, nor a Google user. My account is with VM. The use of my information is governed by VM's privacy policy, not Cisco's, nor Google's.

Incidentally, you need to give some attention to that sticky 'g' on your keyboard.

Re: Changes to Goggle Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

As no one from Virgin Media has given an explanation for this breach of privacy on this forum, I have escalated it to a higher level within Virgin Media, knew it was a good idea to keep email addresses from previous complaints.
