Hi all
Just had a new Samsung TV delivered, spent about a day trying to set it up. I finally got it working with the Virgin 360 box after finding a thread that said to select the manufacture as "Arris". then under the model name, search for and select "Next"
That worked from the point of view that my Samsung remote turns my 360 box on automatically as expected, it changes channels and the guide works fine etc.
But the one thing it won't do is turn the 360 box off, this is very very annoying, it means I'm keeping the VM remote out just to turn it off when I go to bed.
I have a Samsung sound bar with the TV and found that while the VM TV channels are perfectly in sync, the apps aren't. But the Apps run a lot quicker on my Samsung anyway, so it makes sense just to use the Samsung for almost everything.
I watch very little normal TV anyway, I only wanted Virgins Gig 1 broadband, but was offered a 18 month deal which was cheaper than just broadband and included basic TV and a mobile phone (sim only, with O2).
So if I can't get it working, I might as well just use the Freeview on my TV, but as I am used to it and its TV guide it would be nice if I could get it functioning.
Any suggestions please?
While searching under Ariss for models, there was one that matched the model number on the virgin box exactly
DCX960/KK0B/N215
but picking this one, nothing at all worked, wouldn't change channels or do anything.
I've tried numerous HDMI leads, have an 8k one arriving from Amazon today which I will try, but not holding up much hope
Thanks

Have you enabled HDMI-CEC?

Hi @HobGoblyn
On the 360 go to Settings > System > One Power and make sure that it is set to ON so you can power both the 360 and TV on and off providing they are both conected by HDMI cable. You also need to have HDMI CEC enabled on your TV which I beleive is called Anynet+ on Samsung TV's.
Samsung TV's used to be able to control the 360 if Pace DCR7111 was used.
I don't know if the following will work on Samsungs, but I can control my LG TV (with the LG Smart remote) when setting the 360 as either Ziggo or Ziggo Mediabox Next

Hi,
One Power is set to on I’ve tried every different combo of working TV’s I’ve found, including Pace DCR7111 but there’s no Ziggo manufacturer
If everything is off including the Virgin 360 box, and I turn my Samsung on and select the Virgin HDMI port, the Samsung happily turns the Virgin 360 box on, it just won’t turn it off again.
Also I’ve noticed a different problem. If I’m on my PS5 (again Samsung happily turns on and off with the PS5) or I’m watching Netflix or Disney on the Samsung TV apps and I then change to my already on Virgin TV, I get a weird loud repeating pulsing sound out of the Samsungs soundbar, I turn the Samsung off and on and it’s fine again.
It only does this when selecting the Virgin box.
I’ve tried different HDMi cables, I’ve tried different HDMI ports on the TV, I’ve even tried plugging the Virgin box into my Samsung sound bar (sound bar connected to the TV via HDMI) and both problems are still there, Virgin box turns on but not off, and speakers omit a strange pulsing/beeping noise when switching from any Samsung App or PS5 to Virgin.
Very weird

I’ve also tried various HDMI leads inc the one that works with the PS5 and a new 8k one I got yesterday

The Virgin TV is significantly better quality than my free view TV so I hope I can carry on using it, I really don’t want to have the extra remote though

I’ve also just noticed if I turn my 360 off using the 360 remote, it happily also turns off my Samsung tv and Samsung soundbar

I wish I could edit posts lol
Just redid having the 360 box plugged into my Samsung soundbar and double checking when I set the Samsung tv remote up, that I had “TV connected via home theatre system” when I wired it this way.
Its still exactly the same, presuming the Samsung TV is sending an off message to the soundbar (and it is, as soundbar turns off) then the 360 box should be being turned off via the sound bar?
Just very weird, I suspect I’m going to have weeks of Virgin blaming Samsung and Samsung blaming virgin.
As I’ve tried all combinations of ports and various cables, and the fact that no one else seems to have this problem, I presume one of them is at fault.
Note: today updated soundbar software to latest version, tv automatically updated when I set it up.

No comfort for you but Samsung TV's do seem to have a problem with the 360.
The " edit " function which was available for around an hour after posting seems to have been removed.
Thanks everyone
I will try contacting Virgin to see if there’s any hidden set up page that might help, seems very very weird how the Samsung TV turns it on but not off.
Regarding my other issue, the weird sound popping noise, I phoned Richer Sounds, played the noise over the phone, they said that somethings not right, asked if I was in tomorrow and arranged for a replacement soundbar to be dropped off tomorrow and my old one collected. Can’t complain about that sort of service
