Service Barred Excceded Credit Limit

I own my phone and wanted to switch to a monthly plan, so chose to leave o2 for virgin. My import and new service was finalised today and immediately after setting up my online account, I saw the 'services barred' message as 'credit limit of £50 exceeded'. My plan is £7 per month so this is completely impossible. I've been on the ph to customer services for hours and they can't seen to resolve the issue or explain it, I'm apparently going to receive a call tomorrow for whatever dept can sort this mess, but not holding my breath. What is going on?
