My router went blank this morning. No light on and I unplugged it and re-booted but still no lights. Eventually, the lights came on and it booted up but took ages. Is this a problem?

Check for a loose or damaged cable on the Hub's power supply.

First thing I did.

My interpretation of what's happened is that overnight, the hub seemed to have become unpowered - i.e. electrically dead. You did the obvious thing but still nothing. Then, there's a gap in the chain of events because all of a sudden (as in "eventually") the lights came on. So, does "eventually" mean after some attempts at unplugging, re-plugging etc, the hub powered up? If so, there could be a flaky connector inside the hub.
The booting time takes several minutes as the hub negotiates its way into the VM network.
So, is there any more you can tell us? My guess is that your hub may need replacing because of a semi-dud power connection. When the visiting technician does that, a new power supply would be provided.

The light on the hub was not on when I first looked. After checking all the cables, nothing happened. and then, five minutes later, the light came on and it re-booted. Should I get it looked at?

Maybe it needs replacing?

I understand you to say that the hub appeared to be unpowered although the power would have been attached to the hub, the switch remaining on at all times.. You then touched cables and 5 minutes later, on its own, the hub started to work.
So yes, it needs replacing, imo.

So how do I go about getting it replaced?
