Powerline Problems

Just moved over to Virgin having previously had Broadband with BT and more recently Sky. I only swapped because of the lack of any fibre options so was stuck on copper wires, 12/14 mbps!

So, apart from slow speeds everything worked fine. Virgin media now installed and my wireless printer picks up a good wifi signal upstairs but the PC sat above it doesn’t see the network?

Also, my daughters Smart TV which is connected via powerline wired adaptors no longer picks up any internet connection so she can’t watch Netflix.
i have been on with tech support a couple of times to no avail, they just said the speed to mu iphone in those locations was good so it wasn’t their issue. Seems to me there is a compatibility issue here. Any ideas greatly appreciated?

You can try giving them a full reset (The IP range differs to other ISPs, so could be the issue), however, if the powerline adapters are only 10/100 (100Mbps) ethernet the HUB 5 is known to have compatibility issues with legacy devices.

Which HUB do you have, and what is the model of powerline adapters?

Hub5 and Comtrend 9020 adaptors. They are quite old but worked fine on the BT and Sky set ups.

Says they can run up to 200 mbps. I have found an online brochure so will reset them accordingly and see if that helps!

Any ideas on the PC wifi issue?

The PLAs are 10/100 so should work fine via one of the three 1Gb/s 100/1000 ports of a Hub 5,
avoid the 2.5Gb/s port for these device.

Does the PC have a 2.4GHz only Wi-Fi adaptor and it either does not see a signal from the Hub 5 or can't connect
to the SSID ?     Make sure the Hub 5 has Wi-Fi security mode set to : WPA2-PSK ( only ) & try with Smart Wi-Fi disabled in the Hub 5 menu.

Some older 2.4Gb/s only network adaptors just don't work with the Hub 5 Wi-Fi 6 / 802.11ax signal.
Replacement with a current dual band USB Wi-Fi adaptor from a decent brand has been the fix for many folks.

Replaced the powerline adaptors with a pair of new TP link ones, worked straight away!

Probably because the TP link ones have 1Gbps ethernet ports.

All sorted folks. Replaced my old wifi adaptor with a tp-link dual band one and all is well. So apart from it costing me £79.99 for new tp powerline adaptors and £17.99 for the wifi one everything is back up and running. Guess it was time I replaced the old kit anyway!
