Hi there. Just wanted to check here for advice and suggestions?
My internet connection is on&off over past 2 weeks. I contacted virgin media who told me that there was no outage in my area. Agent tried to connect to my hub but he was not able to do so. An engineer visit was arranged.
Engineer came. He did not enter house to check anything. He said that he was going to check line from outside. He said that there was poor flow from my outside cable. However, he could not open Virgin cabinet to fix issue due to a faulty lock. He said that he will ask different team to come and fix issue.
I called Virgin media back to chase repair. I spoke to an agent called "Faisal". He looked at report sent by the engineer. Now he told me that there are 2 kinds of Engineers, one who fixes issues inside the house and one to fixes issues outside. My problem needed an "outside engineer". However he said that the engineer needs several permission to carry out their work. He told me, the earliest availability for an "outside engineer" visit is 24th October.
I asked about what kinds of permission that the engineer would need to open their own Virgin media cabinet. He told me that he was not qualified to answer that question. He was just reading from what is there on his system.
As it did not make any sense, I asked to speak to someone more senior. He then agreed to put a priority request for an "outside engineer" visit request.
I have an additional virginmedia homeworks subscription.I was wondering if any other people had similar issue and is it normal that engineer visit is done after 1 month despite that a problem was already detected. How did you get your problem fixed? Are "inside" and "outside" engineers a reality? Does Engineer needs special permission to open Virgin media cabinet? Can i break my virgin contract if my problem is not fixed or there is delay in fixing the issue?
Please help @all insightful persons.

IME every Tech who has visited me over the years has been able to access the street cabinet to check connections and if necessary, move mine to a different "tap" - no "outside" qualification was needed for them!
Your tech may have been right that they couldnt get in for some reason (no key/broken lock etc) re what Faisal told you - I would disregard that for now and try and get some help from a VM Person on here - when they get here in a day or so
