I’m furious with Virgin Media, and for good reason. On 2nd January 2024, I requested to have a broadband line installed. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, the saga began with installation dates being pushed back again and again all the way until 29th March 2024. Then, out of nowhere, they cancelled entirely, claiming they couldn’t provide cabling to my house and didn’t have the budget for it.
Fair enough, if they can’t do the job, I’ll move on. But here’s the kicker: a hard search has now appeared on my credit report for a service they utterly failed to deliver.
For context, when I initially spoke to Virgin Media’s salesperson, I explicitly asked if this would involve a soft search only. They reassured me repeatedly that it would. But guess what? They’ve gone ahead with a hard search anyway! Not only is this a blatant lie, but it’s also downright damaging especially as I’m currently in the process of remortgaging my home.
This is beyond unacceptable. I trusted Virgin Media to act professionally, but instead, their actions are affecting my financial stability and peace of mind. A hard search on my credit report, for a service they never even provided, is outrageous.
Is this how Virgin Media treats customers who simply wanted broadband? By misleading them, wasting their time for months, and potentially jeopardizing their financial future?
If anyone has dealt with similar nonsense from Virgin Media or has advice on dealing with these credit report disasters, I’d appreciate hearing from you. In the meantime, Virgin Media, sort yourselves out because this is shameful.

Can't help you with the credit score query but I hope you were paid the correct compensation for the cancelled installation (including the cease notice period). Day rate for the period was £5.83 I believe.

Don't get paranoid about one hard search, it won't make a blind bit of difference to a remortgage or affect your financial stability.
It is not damaging, beyond acceptable, shameful or a credit report disaster.
You ordered a service and I'd bet my next month's pension that in the Ts and Cs it explicitly states that they may carry out a credit check, no salesperson is going to be able to give you assurance as to what that check may entail.
