Hi,
I’m 12 months into my 18 month contract with VM in Northern Ireland. I’m moving to Canada in a month and was advised I would have to pay cancellation fee. I understand about the minimum term in the contract, but I’m wondering if there’s any way around this? It’s one of those things I haven’t budgeted for and will affect my savings for the big move.
An agent on the phone said I could get someone to take over my account, but I don’t really understand how that would work.
I’ve emailed homemovers@virginmedia.co.uk for advice because obviously I can’t receive the service any more.
Can anyone offer any advice please?

Hi CiaranM,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.
For the best help with moving we would recommending calling into the movers team via 150/0345 454 1111

Hi Martin,
I have already called the contact number, thanks. Do you have any advice to offer on this thread? I have been advised to get someone to take over my account and I will avoid the cancellation fee, instead there will only be a £20 for install at the new address. So this is my plan now, I have someone willing to take over the account and an agent confirmed on chat that the cancellation fee will be waived in this event. Are you able to confirm?

To my knowledge this isn't something that we would be able to do as we don't do transfers of ownership. For confirmation I would recommend speaking with the Movers teams though.
