Phone switch over

Hi

A message in August alerted me to the digital switchover for our landline. As our phone is in a different room to the modem I need some kind of extension - I really don't want the phone to move as we mostly won't be able to hear it ring in our front room where the modem is. However the email didn't indicate how to arrange this and the Virgin telephone tree doesn't offer an option to deal with this and the digital assistant can't respond to this request. Can someone tell me how to arrange an engineer to come and fix this?

Many thanks

  • Hi there postmodboy 👋 Welcome back to our forum and thanks for your post 😊

Sorry to see you've not been able to get some help with having the Hub moved. I'll certainly be happy to help arrange an engineer for you. I'll pop you a PM to confirm some details so this can be done.

    Regards

The process in past topics on here has usually been that VM completes the switchover and, once that is done, sends a tech to modify your extension wiring to work with the phone connection via the VM hub.

You may need extension sockets reconnecting if you have a security alarm, or other similar equipment, connected to the phone line.

Some points worth noting though, based on past topics, are that engaging VM to complete this work can be a bit of a struggle (as VM would obviously prefer not to do this task at all). It has also been the case in past topics that some of the tech's VM sends out are totally clueless about telephone wiring and several visits have been needed until the 'right' technician visited who knew how to do the work. The work may involve running new wires around the home to link the hub to a nearby phone socket. This was not acceptable to some customers for aesthetic reasons so they did not proceed.

Some have chosen to bypass all of the above by buying some cordless handsets. The cordless base station plugs into the hub and cordless satellite handsets are used around the home as required with no wiring changes needed (though it comes at a cost of purchasing the cordless system).

A VM forum person should reply to your topic within a few days.
