On our wavelength

I am not sure I will be able to explain my problem being 84 years old . On looking at my emails when after looking at one email when I go on to the next email the one I looked stays red I then go onto the next one that goes red with a statement saying 2 messages selected and so on . I found if I right click on the red one the red disappears and I can go on to the next and so on. I  am sure no one can  understand  my rubbish query. lol

@kingfisher2

Yours is not a rubbish query and you have explained it very well.

I'd suggest that to select the email you want to read you should simply click somewhere on the subject line of the email (ringed in blue).

What you are seeing suggests that you are clicking on the selection box (ringed in red in the image below).

Select an email to read comact view.png

That image shows the VM email screen as it appears in the compact view. You may have yours set to display using one of the other views but the principle will still be the same.  Click on the subject text rather than the square selection box on the left.

Try that and see if it helps.
