Old email deactivated

Hi

My auntie has recently signed up a new virgin media account.

She uses an old virgin.net email address from years ago. However, she was told this would be deactivated as they have signed up for a new account. When she enquired about this with her virgin media account manager, he said to ignore the notification as it was a scam.

That was not the case as the email has now been deactivated...

We have rang on 23rd December to ask for it to be reinstated as there has obviously been some misunderstanding and as told it would be reactivated within 48 hours. Nothing was done 48 hours later so we rang back, told again another 48 hours. Still nothing. Rang again today and told yet again another 48 hours.

Whats going on? Has anybody else experienced this? Not sure what to do next as speaking to anybody from virginmedia isn't getting us anywhere.

VM are indeed deleting email from "non paying" customers, so it is quite possible the old mailbox has gone.  As for new users, VM have not given mailboxes for nearly three years, so even if you join now, you will not get a VM mailbox.  New users have to use a third party email address to join, e.g. GMail etc.

Hi sarahhdoubleh,

Thank you for your post, welcome to the Community Forums.

We're very sorry if your Auntie was advised that this email from us was a scam, as we can confirm that this was genuine and we did go through the process of permanently deleting certain email addresses which were not attached to an active subscription with us.

We're afraid that as these accounts have now been deleted, we can't reinstate them, even temporarily. We can only apologise about this. We did sent out notifications to warn that the accounts would be deleted, and a 30 day grace period was provided so that any important emails that needed to be saved could be transferred over to a new account.
