Re: Will sky sports be HD only from 1 October 2018

Correction to above £911.00 vs. £844.32, though latter has 6 months less sky sports which won’t be an issue as Euro 2020 will be on BBC/ITV so would want to cancel sky sports in May anyway.

Look like the offer may be restricted to invitation by email only at present.

Excludes existing sky sports and sky movie customers.

perhaps free upgrade to HD on the way. 😊

Re: Will sky sports be HD only from 1 October 2018

Not likely. Why would VM give up £7pm for the upgrade to HD?

Re: Will sky sports be HD only from 1 October 2018

Do sky still charge VM 7.00 pm per customer under the new deal?

What will happen to sky sports SD subscribers if VM drop the Sky sports SD channels?

Re: Will sky sports be HD only from 1 October 2018

The new deal is the new deal with HD as standard, existing customers like me have to stump up £7pm for HD.

Unless VM changes its agreement with Sky, SD will continue to be broadcast. Obviously it's a competitive market so it's up to VM to provide Sky Sports HD at whatever cost they can get away with, although I believe that Sky customers can no longer subscribe to SD and those on SD have to pay an extra £2pm for the their forced upgrade to HD.

Re: Will sky sports be HD only from 1 October 2018

I meant the new deal between VM and Sky.

It would make sense that Sky would just sell HD as standard to VM. Like they do to their own subscribers.

if this is the case then there is no 7.00 for VM to pass on anymore.

it is likely that VM will drop Sky sports SD, like they have done with Sky Movies SD and BT sport SD

so then they will have to offer sky sports SD subscribers something.  Don’t you think?

Re: Will sky sports be HD only from 1 October 2018

VM has to pay Sky and SD costs less than HD, so it's up to VM to make a decision about SD. My belief is that ultimately market forces will push VM to dropping SD but we'll have to wait and see how long it takes. What isn't in doubt is that if you want HD you will pay for it either by a specific upgrade as we now have or by subscribing to a rather high-priced bundle.

Would be nice, but I suspect the price would go up a little for all SD only subscribers.  Probably by £2/month as was the case when Sky made HD standard.
