I want to drop my kerb but there is a catv cover in the way, what do I do?

Hi when you contacted the local council for permission what did they say regarding the cover, and who does it belong to,.Regards Micky

i haven’t contacted them yet, as it says catv box and has nynex on it so assumed it was virgin. I have a price from the council website, just wanted to obtain an understanding of price from virgin.

nothing to do with virgin - the council will sort it all.

Hi as the other poster has said, when you contact the council they have the plans and will know who owns it and should approach them to see if it will need reinforcing, they may put the onus on you to contact them, I have seen some posts on here that in virgins case they charge for a spotter just to access what the cost will be, I'm guessing I won't be cheap.Regards Micky

You cannot get council permission for a dropped kerb without first getting approval from VM which owns the pavement cover. The process used to be that you paid £240 to VM for a report on what had to be done, e.g. strengthen or move the cover, followed by a refusal to do anything as it isn't a health or safety issue.

No doubt a forum team member will elaborate.

With a situation like this, we would usually expect you to contact the council first to gain the permission to drop the kerb. If the council agrees to this work, then you can contact us and we can talk to our cabinet and plant team to see what would be involved in moving the cover for you. Sometimes the council will contact us on your behalf though, it depends 🙂

However, just to set your expectations, sometimes, we can refuse to move the cover for multiple reasons, such as cabling, how it will affect the network, so on and so forth. We will endeavour to be as helpful as possible with these queries though.

Once you have the permission, that's when we can move forward with looking at what we'd need to do to help you make this happen.

The council have been out and marked up the pavement. However they have told me to contact you to ask if they can drop the chamber to drop the kerb. So what happens next?
