upgrade to v6

Letter from VM to say I must upgrade to new v6 box. This is supposedly free. Went to website to fill in my details and on final page says it will cost me an extra £8.50 per month. How is this free? Anybody else with similar issues. Rang helpline and got no help at all (as usual).
