Video Output Settings

Please could someone tell me if the Video Output Settings have been corrected in the V6. i.e. Do they now work like they are described in the info screen or are they like the TiVo but with extra 2160 settings?

The the PQ of the V6 is noticeably worst than the TiVo there would be a lot of complaints. I think you should get a replacement V6.

This matches my experience. The v6 is pulling a 720p signal on some channels compared to the 1080i. BBC for some reason looks okay. But that's about it

P. S. On an earlier post I uploaded some screen photos using my Oppo to reveal the true frame rate being output. The v6 does change it and doesn't pass through the xP frane rates. Hence why that BBC uhd pilot for example had horrendous stutter

Why would it be 720p if it's filmed in 1080i?

This is my 2nd V6 box already, both show the same average video quality. It's not a signal issue, the old TiVo is producing a fantastic image paired with the DVDO iScan.

After years of complaints, it seems as if VM has finally fixed the bugs in video output settings of the V6. As a reminder: SD is broadcast in 576i and HD in 1080i. If you have a decent TV and prefer that it does upscaling and conversion, you might think that all you had to do was to set 576i and 1080i. Wrong, because SD was upscaled to 1080i, and the only way to get 576i was to have only a setting of 576i - pretty silly as it would result in 1080i being downscaled to 576i.

There was another bug in that if you had a setting of 720p and 1080i, then you'd get 720p.

Well, no more! I've got 5761, 720p, 1080i, 1080p 24/25/30fps and 1080p (the latter two to capture YouTube content with odd resolutions) and now I get 576i for SD and 1080i for HD, with YouTube content being scaled correctly.

I haven't got a 4K TV but if the video output settings are working as I think they are, then the following setting should pass everything through to the TV.

  • 576i
  • 720p (meaning 720p50)
  • 1080i (meaning 1080i50)
  • 1080p 24/25/30fps
  • 2160p 24/25/30fps
  • 2160p (meaning 2160p50)

Well that's a pleasant surprise. I'll test what you say on my 4k tv tomorrow

Not for me.  If I pick 720p at all I get 720p always for both SE and HD and UHD (e.g. channel 999)

If I pick 1080i at all I get 1080i even for SD images (unless I've picked 720p).  Weirdly I now also get 1080i on UHD images. E.g. 999 and BT sport  531

Furthermore they've more broken the wizard.  If you go through clicking Thumbs up to any working resolutions (all of them) it auto picks 1080i, 1080p and 576i and 576p only. So you lose UHD

Which software version are you?

I'm 20.8.1.RC11-VMB-11-C68

Confirmed.  There's now no way to get UHD unless 2160p is the only option you pick.  Which then means you won't get 1080.

What the hell are you doing Virgin?

Also confirmed. Nothing has changed at all so I'm not sure what Roger Gooner means. Unless it only works on HD TVs?
