V6 box standby whirring noise

I have had a new V6 box installed and have set it into Eco mode. When I "send it to sleep/standby" something is starting up and making a whirring noise. It could be a fan or hard drive noise? This eventually stops but after a while it starts up again. I have left the the box in standby now for a couple of days and this start/stop of whatever is causing the whirring continues in what appears to be a random fashion. Has anyone any ideas

Re: V6 box standby whirring noise

Thanks yes. Can I stop it cutting in when the V6 box is in standby?

Re: V6 box standby whirring noise

Yes that's what I thought but it comes on in the middle of the night when the temperature is relatively cold. It's an annoying noise in a quiet bedroom.

Re: V6 box standby whirring noise

Hi ABA

Welcome to the Community, I'm really sorry for the problems you're experiencing with your V6 box recently.

If you're still experiencing this issue, I'd like to arrange for an engineer to come and take a closer look, if you're available?

I've sent you information regarding this in a private message, which you can view by clicking the envelope on the top right of this page.

We're looking forward to hearing from you

Craig

A look at what Craig? A look at a box doing what it's supposed to do?

Re: V6 box standby whirring noise

@jb66 We don't expect the set top box to make intermittent noise, so I'd like to test the set top box in case it's detecting any issues.

Re: V6 box standby whirring noise

My tuppence worth.

In my experience the fan is always running but it is very quiet. I have to put my ear very close to hear it. Someone with a condition such as hyperacusis could still find they hear this low noise and find it aggravating.

I think it is more likely that the disk is spinning up to download EPG updates. In my experience, this is currently happening four times a day so could happen twice during someone's nightly sleep.
