Check your V6 has a working internet connection by seeing whether you can use OnDemand ok. If you have issues here, there's your underlying problem.
If that's working ok, then follow Home > Help & Settings > Settings > Network, and use "Connect to Virgin Media services now"
The timings on the LHS in this screen should show regular 6hourly EPG updates, and if they're failing this - again - is indicative of something going wrong.
