TV Control app on iPad: Power On/Off button does nothing

I have discovered the joys of the 'TV Control App' on my iPad. it would be good if I didn't need the original remote at all. But I can't use the iPad to turn the TV/V6 Box on & off - the green button doesn't work. The devices are connected on a wifi network. Do I need an ethernet or Powerlink connection between hub and V6 for this to work?

Re: TV Control app on iPad: Power On/Off button does nothing

No, the app only control the functionality of the V6 box
"Use your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android Tablet or Phone, or Amazon Kindle Fire or Fire Phone like an advanced remote to control your Virgin TV V6 or TiVo box".
The app can not be set up to control your TV.

You can't learn anything from a mistake until you admit that you've made it.

Re: TV Control app on iPad: Power On/Off button does nothing

Thanks for the clarification. Three observations:

-Why is the ‘on/off’ button there if it can never do anything?

- I was unable to find a reference ‘manual’ online that would have explained this.

- An advantage of providing the full functionality provided by a working button is that one could then use the  tablet or phone if the remote goes missing. As it stands, this isnt possible, and many ‘minimalist’ modern TVs don’t feature physical on-off buttons, or get built in to cabinets etc.

Re: TV Control app on iPad: Power On/Off button does nothing

PS I should have explained that I have programmes the V6 remote to control the TV as well as the V6 box, which is great. It would be useful if the tablet could emulate this - but you say it can’t?

Simply put - the V6 remote simulates your TV’s remote by sending the same IR signals but your mobile device can’t send these IR commands.

PS The on/off button is there in the app to be able to put the V6 into Standby.

Re: TV Control app on iPad: Power On/Off button does nothing

I just tried the 'standby' button here using the TV Control app.

It works exactly the same as the remote button in regards to the V6:
Press it and about three seconds later the set-top-box enters stand-by mode
Press it twice and it goes into standby immediately.

Re: TV Control app on iPad: Power On/Off button does nothing

Thanks for the info.

I have ordered a new remote because the radio isnt working.

Maybe that has something to do with it. I’ll post on here whether it solves the problem.

A new remote will not ‘fix’ your ‘problem’.

When you use the Virgin TV Control app, your V6 remote plays no part.

Re: TV Control app on iPad: Power On/Off button does nothing

The only thing that doesn’t work on the Remote (which I believe the engineer left accidently when we upgraded to the V6) is that the ‘pairing’ doesn’t work, so I can’t get the V6 to work when its in its cabinet. Getting the proper remote would enable me to pair it. This might turn on the V6’s radio?
