Streaming between 2 tivo boxes (connecting them together)

Hi wonder if you can help.

I have a tivo/virgin box connected by network cable to my superhub 4.

I have tp-link deco connected to the router and all wireless things in my house are connected to one of the other 3 Deco's dotted around the house.  The second Tivo box is in my office is one.

I get good speed etc in the office so no problems there. However, if I try to connect the boxes it always fails - As in I wish to watch something on the main tivo box that has been recorded in the office but it always fails.

I don't have enough network knowledge to resolve this - HELP

I guess the main box ( connected to the SH4) has an IP address or subnet and the office box(connected to the Deco) has another and assume this is the problem.

Any ideas?

Error Message.

I go to my shows>Oher tivo boxes> and select the other box.  It tries to connect, then I get a screen saying;

"The DVR8DBD TiVo box cannot be found.

There may be a problem with your home network or the network connection on your TV boxes for the TiVo box may have been unplugged. (C423)"

Thanks for tip.

Can the two boxes see that the other exists?

Any conflicts with multiple devices trying to use the same IP address? You can go into a settings page on the Virgin hub and manually allocated a device an IP address based on it's MAC address, which greatly reduces the chane of two or more devices trying to use the same IP address

Do not do this, just let the DHCP server hand out unique IP addresses.

Thanks Roger - I think that will be a solution, can see why that would work.  Only thing someone told me that nest not to use the SH4 in Modem mode? there was no need.

But I might give it a go over the weekend and test a few things out ( speed around the house etc ) to see.

You  have been badly advised. Typically mesh systems are supposed to take over from the router and work best when in router mode. If your hub is in router mode as well you have two DHCP servers running simultaneously, which is never needed or desirable in a residential setup. This is what you need, note that the switch must be behind the DHCP server.

Thanks Roger, very helpful.

I've switched the Wifi radios off on the SH4, so no conflicts. I know a little, but as they say a little amount of knowledge is dangerous!

Indeed - if you're using the SH4 (or any SH) as a router, then leave the wireless enabled.

If you're using your own router kit - which by the way is an excellent course of action - then the hub needs to be in modem mode.

See if you can get a Wi-Fi extender from Virgin rather than the TP Link you are currently using. I also had a TP Link but the Virgin extender solved the problem for me.  You will have to remove the TP Link from the network as they won’t work together.

Hi @bryansmithsnr thanks for your post and I'm sorry to hear of your concerns raised.

I do apologise for the lack of response here and it has been brought to our attention.

Has the help given in this thread helped you and have you now got the multi-room working?
