Hi, is anyone else having a problem with pixellation when recording programmes on Sky Showcase channel? Recorded something last night and it's barely watchable, also happens on Yesterday and Gold but not as bad.

Hi @ChrissyNix
VM channels are carried in groups called muxes, it's like the way channels are carried on freeview too so if a few channels in the group are pixelated then it generally a signal issue.
Sky Showcase HD and Gold HD are carried on the same mux as BBC Scotland HD - do you have any issues with BBC Scotland HD as well?
Yesterday is carried on the same mux as W, Dave, Eden, Alibi, Drama, Great Movies and Great Movies Action
If you have pixealtion on those channels too then it does seem to confirm a signal issue. Double check all your connections are snug and tight especially the white coaxial.
If it's still the same then you should contact VM faults by calling 150 from a Virgin landline or mobile, or 0345 454 1111, option 2 (Faults)
When calling Faults you will hear the automated response asking you to press 1 for the link to online support etc.
Ignore all the options and don't press any buttons then you should be placed into a queue and an agent should pick up the phone and resolve the problem.
Or wait a day or two and one of the Forum Staff may pick this up for you.

Do you have the same problems when watching those channels live? If so, then "pixellation on live TV" is the problem which will then be recorded.
If live TV is OK, then the issue may be hard drive related and is easily proven by pausing your live channel and watching it slightly delayed - in other words, recorded.

Sorry I meant challenge not yesterday, is challenge on the same mux as showcase and gold? They're fine when I watch them live it's only when they're recorded so I'll give VM a call, thanks for taking the time to reply

If those channels are fine when you watch them live, it's not a signal issue. Try pausing any live channel for a short while and watch delayed - this is also a recording and uses your hard drive in the same way. This problem should affect all recorded content regardless of channel.
If this is also pixellates, then the problem is with your hard drive and means your box needs replacing.
