Went to start box but get orange light, welcome screen and beeping (4 quick followed by one lower beep)
I know all about there not being a speaker but it's true!

Sounds horribly like your box's hard drive might have failed, but at the very least if it won't bootup, there's a fault somewhere.
VM staff monitor these boards, but it's not a real-time or immediate facility. The quickest way to report this is to call in. 150 (from a VM phone) or 0345 4541111 (from any other phone) and choose the "I have a fault" options.

I've had an engineer come in & replace the box so problem solved!
Only without service for one day & night... Refund please...?

I'm glad to hear this has been resolved for you. In regards to loss of service we can only provide this for total loss of service over 48 hours. As this was under that we wouldn't be able to provide that. Our apologies for that.
