Re: BBC iPlayer 4k World Cup coverage confirmed but to be "restricted"

We get the Planet Earth demo on our upstairs V6 which is only connected to a small HD tv (1080p).

You'll get Planet Earth if the TV is 4K UHD cpmpliant, but lacks HLG HDR support. You need full HLG compliance as well as 4K UHD cmpliance in order to get the World Cup streams.

I’m also getting some buffering with UHD but that could be my connection as V6 is only connected via WiFi.

However, other than the darkness with HLG, the actual picture quality is awesome and does look MUCH better than HD.

Regardless, you need an HLG compliant display in order for the V6's iPlayer implementation to be able to access and output the 4K World Cup football streams.

Agreed - you need 'the works' before you'll get the live UHD football prompt.

Not true you don’t need hlg to get the uhd football my tv has no hdr at all and I get the uhd stream and it looks great when it’s not buffering

Re: BBC iPlayer 4k World Cup coverage confirmed but to be "restricted"

OK this is weird, at the begining of the game on UHD the picture was very dark - was better on BBC HD.. but, out of curiousity, I thought I would try to see if could still get UHD and on the V6 UHD, now the picture is bright much more pleasant to watch. Very strange.

How do you know it is the UHD stream and not the HD stream?

I agree, the specs for HLG are supposed to mean you don't need an HDR TV to be able to receive a 4k HLG lice stream.

However, my Philips 2016 model with HDR, which was updated to HLG last year through a firmware update still won't let me access the world cup UHD. Annoying.

It could be they are re-balancing things - remember it is a trial.
