The HLG version here is brighter than the HD version using the same app on the same tv.

.....not sure why the HLG would give a darker screen though?

Have you done any calibration on the tv?

My tv app and the V6 are giving brighter and much more colourful images over the live HD channel.

Had a couple of sounds issues on both.

Ok, so my experience so far.....

Watching on BBC ONE HD gives a superb picture on my Samsung 50”MU6120. Best way to watch it on iPlayer is to wait for the Red Button prompt and then select iPlayer from the left hand menu, which then loads up iPlayer (through the V6) whilst the game continues in the background.

iPlayer then asked me if I wanted to watch in HD from the beginning or watch in UHD, so chose the UHD option (it’s still giving me the UHD option 21 minutes into the game so slots are still open).

However, on BOTH iPlayer on the V6 and iPlayer on my TV’s native app, the picture is really dark when watching in UHD - it’s like the  match is being played at night (the grass on the pitch is a very dark green colour and you can barely see the player’s shadows casted by the stadium’s floodlights) so is not nice looking to watch it like this?? BBC ONE HD gives a good vibrant picture...so not sure what’s going on with my TV?!

Additionally, sound keeps cutting out in UHD on both apps.....

....actually, I have calibrated my TV (used the THX calibration app and also settings recommended on Rtings.com) but UHD is too dark for my liking (it’s not the same darkness when watching UHD on Netflix so it must be an iPlayer thing).

I give up. I don't understand why I can get the uhd trial to work but not the football. Ridiculous really

....it must be down to the TVs then - perhaps some models are brightening up the HLG image whereas others are darkening it.

Re: BBC iPlayer 4k World Cup coverage confirmed but to be "restricted"

I explained that earlier - the UHD trial of Planet Earth should work on both UHD and non-UHD kit using the same stream.

It is there to shown that UHD stream works on both - but you will not actually see it in UHD on non-UHD kit.

The football is only being offered when the iPlayer app detects a HLG tv.

My picture is fine by my sound keeps cutting out on the BBC iPlayer app watching 4k football. Any ideas?

To many different standards for 4k. Its confusing. Only went with virgin for the V6 and 4k. Only 4k it has that I can watch I can use through the app on my TV. Be glad to get rid of it

I suspect it is an issue at the BBC end as so many people are getting sound issues.

Re: BBC iPlayer 4k World Cup coverage confirmed but to be "restricted"

You'll get Planet Earth via the V6 if the TV is 4K UHD compliant even if the TV lacks HLG HDR support. You need full HLG compliance as well as 4K UHD cmpliance in order to get the World Cup streams via the V6.
