Fast Forward - changed behaviour from TiVo

When fast forwarding on TiVo to skip ads etc it was possible at full speed to allow a little reaction time when hitting play. The device would drop back a few seconds so you could time how far past the resume point & get it right every time with a little practise.

With the new 360 this no longer happens. It starts playback from the moment you hit play.

This makes any anticipation impossible so you end up scrubbing ever slower back & forth until you hit the actual end of the ads/start of your show.

This is infuriating & a mind-numbingly dozy default behaviour.

Is there any setting to get back to the older behaviour?

That function is a TiVo unique.

Having used TV 360 for two years, you get used to having to anticipate.

You can use the left < next to the OK button to jump back 10 seconds and the right > to jump forward 30 seconds, or use voice control to move back as far as you want.

I've also discovered that you cannot slow down the fast-forwarding by pressing the rewind button = i.e. FF x 3 you cannot go to FF x 2 unless you hit play then FF twice, Unless somebody knows differently.

If you keep pressing the FF button it will go from x 3, x 4, x1, to x 2, not as quick as just pressing rewind.

Other than a pretty new interface design/GUI, there appears to be no factor in which this 360 is better than the TiVo.
Every aspect of it seems more clumsy to navigate, or provides actually less functionality than the TiVo.

I'm truly sorry I ever took the upgrade.
I'm not even going to ask if it's possible to downgrade. The answers will just be too depressing. 😕

I was googling how to switch this behaviour on for the 360 as I too relied on it heavily when using TiVo. I agree that the 'upgrade' is currently looking like a 'downgrade', as this function, plus the less than intuative recording options (when searching for a show, the record option is missing if the show has no air dates) and the 'wishlist recording' options are all missing. Also, the box doesn't notify me if shows on my watch list are scheduled to air, so the watch list is just a set of bookmarks, with no 'smart' user reminders or prompts.

I really hope Virgin get their act together soon, because from this customer's perspective they are struggling to cope with the products they've offered, evidenced by the frequent exceptionally long wait times experienced when trying to contact customer support, either through the web chat, Whatsapp or phone.

I used to recommend Virgin, but since my last upgrade in September, I don't think I will any more.

You have to remember that the 360 platform is in its infancy and is very new so you can't expect it to be on par with TiVo which has been around for years and has been very well served with updates and features.

I also had similar reservations before I updated to 360 from TiVo but I took it upon myself to research what it could and could not do so that I was fully informed and now actually prefer it.

What do you actually prefer about it? There seem to be very few areas where it is better than the V6 box, a slightly more modern look (though sounds like the GUI is harder to navigate due to this) and voice control (seems a bit gimmicky, but might be useful for search) appear to be the only things it offers that could be considered an improvement over the V6, whereas the things you lose are a pretty considerable list; series link manager, wishlists, undelete, series link+, series links for unscheduled programs, radio recording, skip-back on fast-forward etc. Not everyone is going to use all of those of course, but the loss of functionality for series links seems a pretty major step back as that is the main function of the box.

You shouldn't really look at it from a 'one is better than the other' perspective.  They are two very different systems (its like saying, which is better, Mac OS or Windows?).

For a start, the remote of the 360 is 100% improvement over the peanut shaped TiVo remote (which was awful!) and for me, I just like the interface better - the TiVo interface is straight out of the 1980s!!!
