Hi all, I received my QuickStart box today for 360 and Hub 4 however I need a longer cable as the hub and TV are in separate rooms. Can anyone advise what cable I need to go from the splitter to the 360 box please? Many thanks

Is this a brand-new installation where you've not previously had VM TV? It sounds like it, but can you confirm?

If so, and you don't have a co-ax connection where you want to use the 360 box then you'll need a manned engineer installation - to either extend the cabling or put new wall-points in.

Either wait here (might be a couple of days) for VM staff to pick up, or call in via CS - 150 (from a VM phone) or 0345 4541111 (from any other phone)

Hi, it’s a new install for the TV. I’ve always had VM broadband. The lead that connects from the splitter to the 360 box is too short, so I just need a longer cable but I don’t know what the correct name is for this type of cable.

Sounds like the internal co-ax cable to me - it comes out of the wall-point and connects to your individual VM boxes.

VM's coax should only be supplied & fitted by VM - it's specialist grade and forms part of VM's network so (well-intentioned) DIY jobs aren't recommended.

I know you are right, but I don't understand why, because they've already sent him a DIY cable, it's just a little too short, he just needs another DIY cable that's only a few metres longer. I don't understand how a cable that's a few metres longer will suddenly render the customer unqualified to plug it in. It's just a slightly longer cable.

As far as i know the DIY TV cable is cheap and thin cable I'm not even sure if it's actual 75ohm coax? The new TV boxes have been specified with cost-cutting IEC type aerial sockets too, not the better F-type connections and this is probably introducing more reflection into the HFC network than some decent EBAY coax ever would.

I agree, I’m not paying £99 for someone to come to my house and plug in a cable when I can do it myself for a lot less. I just wish I knew more about the type of cable I need for this.

No-one's asking you to pay £99 for a non-fault callout - as newapollo has said, the charge is now £25

Considering the work & parts potentially involved, it's excellent value and far cheaper than causing faults for other customers on your local network as a result of (well-intentioned but) defective DIY cabling.

As a manned installation is required I do not believe that any charge will be made.
