360 second box

Jon1982
Tuning in

Hi there,

I'm having a garden office installed which is about c20 meters from the main box in the house.  I'd like to run a second 360 box in the office - we currently only have the main box.

Can anyone tell me what cable would need to be run from the main box to the office - is it just a coax cable?  The company installing the office are already running an ethernet cable from the hub which happens to be next to the TV so I'd like to get them to install the TV cabling at the same time!

I've also read on here about the limitations of the mini 360 box - can you run x2 main boxes or is that not permitted?

Thanks in advance!

Jon

1) VM use specialised coax cable, as they share spectrum with on-air services like Freeview, DAB radio & moblie phone services, all of which would interfere with the network if the signal were to ingress. The cable used for Satellite & rooftop installations won’t keep these signals out. Anything not installed by a VM tech (that will be required, as a longer cable run will require signal adjustments in the street cabinet) could leave you liable if the street then has issues. It’s also against VM T&Cs to modify their coax network, for obvious reasons.

2) You can only have two main boxes if you are upgrading from an existing TiVO V6 multiroom setup. The V360 system is a master & slave system, so if you are adding multiroom to an existing V360 it will have to be a Mini. You can have a maximum of 2 Minis per installation.

Many thanks for your reply!  Very helpful!

I was hoping to avoid using VM for the cabling purely from a logistical point of view as I was hoping to tie in the cabling at the same time as other cables running from the house to the office, but it seems like that won't be an option!

Shame about not being able to have a secondary main box!

The advice if you are putting in trunking or conduit is to install a pull rope so the install tech can simply tie one end to the cable and pull it through.

V360 was designed for diskless cloud storage operation, as it is being used by VMs parent company all over Europe. However, in the UK & Eire the broadcasters won't allow cloud storage, hence the hard disk has to be present in the main box for the foreseeable future.

Hi,

Thanks for your help previously.  The engineer visited to install the second box.  They gave me the box, connected the second cable on the side of the house (image 1) and left a length of cable to reach the new building in the garden.  The electricians have just run the cable but unfortunately it’s about 45cms too short, it just reaches inside the building (image 2)

I called 150 who said they could order me a 5m coax extension which would work.  In the end their system was playing up so they’ve advised me to buy my own coax and call back with the cost and they will compensate me.  I’m not really bothered about the small cost but I’m concerned given the previous advice about requiring a special cable as to whether a coax cable will be sufficient.

Any advice would be welcome!

Hi @Jon1982,

Thanks for the update on this. I'm sorry to hear the cabling is a bit shorter than needed. In regards to the cabling, previous posts are correct in the advisements that installing your own cabling will make you liable for any network issues, or equipment issues caused by the cabling.

I'm going to drop you a private message to look into what options we can provide you to ensure we're doing everything correctly, and get your TV box up and running as soon as possible. Keep an eye out in the top-right purple envelope.

Cheers,
