Are you looking to block individual numbers or marketing calls? If you are looking to block individual numbers then we don't have a call feature that will facilitate this, there is an Incoming Barring feature but this only bars all calls. The best thing for this is to purchase a handset/device that allows you to control what calls are allowed through and which are not.
If it relates to marketing calls, the above can help as well but we do have a feature called Anonymous Caller Reject that can help with this providing they are UK incoming calls.
Caller Display (If you don't already have it) will allow you to see who is calling and this can be a handy feature in combating unwanted calls.

Thanks for your comprehensive answer! I now realise that the answer to what I'm looking for lies in the phones themselves, rather than with the service provider. I need to buy myself a phone with the appropriate feature built-in.
This is not a very satisfactory reply, I have a phone which will block calls but it is limited to a certain number and that got reached about a week after I started using it. All the other major service providers have an exchange based system to block calls so I don't know why Virgin don't provide one. I would even pay a small fee for the facility to block unlimited number of these calls.
We have recently been plagued by calls purporting to be from BT informing us that our Broadband is going to be ceased! I contacted BT but they are not interested in trying to stop these calls even though their customers are likely to be taken in and defrauded by them.

This isn't a service that we offer at this time, however we're always looking at ways to improve the products and services we provide. This may be something that is available in the future, as we take all feedback on board.
Lucy_B - I want to add my voice to requests for this feature. I am plagued by calls with recorded messages about window scrapple schemes and other "green" initiatives. Sometimes it is not possible to find out the caller's number, but this morning it was from a number 07605373389 that a search on Google shows is regularly used for such nuisance calls. If Virgin's customers are being plagued by scams like this, why can't you block that number from calling your customers? I can block numbers on my mobile phone, so why can't Virgin block numbers? it must be technologically possible.
(And yes, I am signed up to the Telephone Preference Service, but the scammers and nuisance callers don't take any notice of that.)
Since the reply to my last post on this subject, as Virgin were not going to provide a call blocking service in the near future, I invested in a BT 4500 call blocking phone. This phone is fantastic and I highly recommend it. It takes a bit of time to put in all your friends and family numbers, assuming you have some!, but it has stopped all the nuisance calls immediately. It is very easy to block numbers, up to a thousand, but most callers don't bother more than once as soon as they get the message from the phone.
I can't recommend this phone highly enough, it is only about £40 from a number of stores, I got ours from Argos, and it includes an answering machine.
