Like hundreds of thousands of others, I've been trying to call the Universal Credit line for over a week now, sadly to no avail. One of the problems is that after 2 hours - ON THE DOT - I get booted off the queue. I thought that was a problem with the helpline, but many of my friends were saying that they'd got through after four or five hours, so I started thinking that maybe it was Virgin cutting me off after two hours (and it is 2 hours EXACTLY), probably to prevent me from overspending or to avoid pocket calls. However, it's an 0800 number and free!!! And I really need to get through. It's important for my survival - literally!
When I spoke to a person on the Virgin Helpline on Friday, the person first tried to argue that the line had probably been cancelled, hoping I would hang up, to which I responded that if the line - an official government line that is on the official government website! - had been closed, I shouldn't be able to get into the queue in the first place, should I? This really flustered her, but still, all she really wanted to do was close the call (she tried really hard) and eventually, she said she would raise a ticket and I'd get a call back within 24 hours (48 at the momst). It is now 72 hours later and I haven't heard - obviously! .
This is really vital and Virgin is just hiding under the table like a 3-year-old, hoping it goes away.
Aside from the shoddy customer service, which after 16 years I should now be used to (mind you, that's a lie, it used to be great) I need to know how I can prevent the call from cutting off after 2 hours, otherwise I'll never get through!
Can somebody please deal with this? Or help in some way?

Hi, I've been attempting to contact TUI and each time I call on my Virgin Mobile, I also get cut off after exactly 2 hours. So it MUST be something Virgin are doing. Please get this sorted as I can't resolve my issue with TUI without waiting over 2 hours!!!

Hi RickM13,
Thank you for reaching out to us in our community, I am sorry you were knocked out of the calling que after 2 hours, this isn't a known issue our end, others calling from landlines and other operators are having the same issue.
Regards
Paul.

Just a thought. What if every so often you pressed a number on the keypad. (I did it by mistake this morning)
If there is some sort of inactivity timer it may reset it

Yes, I wondered that. I'm trying again on the Virgin landline and I tried pressing a key a few minutes before I got to 2 hours just now, and it is now still connected 2 hours and 1 minute later. Shouldn't have to do that though. Most people wouldn't think to do that until they keep getting kicked off.

Well it is known coz I’ve told you about it and so have.a bunch of other people. If it isn’t ‘known’ what would it take to be ‘known’ I wonder. What you probably mean is, you have no intention of trying to fix it

After hunting around this seems common to virtually all networks, so its not a fault but a feature😆
It also seems true that my suggestion of pressing a key every so often resets the timer.
Perhaps we should ask why we have to hang on a phone for over two hours just to speak to a company.

Hello twen_angst
Thanks for your post
We do impose a maximum call duration limit of 2 hours
This is to minimise possibly high call charges
If you do need to just before the 2 hrs mark is press hash on the device

if this is true then there are a lot of virgin staff that need further training, it would have been helpful for me to know this months ago but the damage is done for me now. Hopefully someone else can actually benefit from the 27+ messages on here now

That would be so infuriating. You have my empathy!

This would have been very helpful to know BEFORE i got cut off after being on hold to Currys today!
Need to spread the word.
And no, my problem wasn't resolved before I got cut off, and theres no way they'll call me back.
Probably need to call them back and wait another 2 hours !!!!
Not impressed!!!!
