Virgin 8p Tariff - Virgin Mobile Cancelling some tariffs after O2 buy-out!

Omen_Data_Syste
On our wavelength

Just got an sms from Virgin saying they are cancelling my tariff in January - probably due to the 02 takeover.

Don't laugh but I am still on the 20 year old Virgin 8p Tariff - yes 8p per minute, it still exists for some of us.

Question is can I get a refund on my current existing credit on the two phones I have with the tariff on them?

I don't use the phones that much but it will be imperative to keep the mobile number as i have had it for over 20 years so I believe a monthly pay account is not for me - would it be possible to swap this to another account which will keep the credit perhaps and the number?

You can transfer the number to another supplier, virgin no longer do any Payg services, I would assume that any monies in credit would be paid back to you, but a virgin rep will get to your post soon(ish) and assist you with that

The only other thing to watch out for is if you have an old Nokia mobile it may be locked to virgin and as the company no longer exists virgin cannot provide you with the unlock code

Its ok i work in IT and yes I do have Nokia 435 and Nokia 1020 Lumias but I have installed Android on one and the other has already been upgraded to windows 10 so both are still working best phones ever so no plans to change em and both unlocked.

I have noted in my Virgin Account I have the option to move my payasyougo 8P tariff to one called Big Talk or Big Data and Texts - Would these not work?

Or does the credit disappear from them at the end of the month.

It seems these are top up account and not pay monthly?

Or are these Tariffs disappearing as well?

Thanks in advance

Got my PAC codes from my online account I will miss Virgin Mobile it has quite the best online management of my mobile never had an issue in 20 years with them.

Thanks very useful links I see it looks like the Big Data account is pay as you go so they are getting rid of them all - How cynical just moneymaking exercise now just like their Broadband ripoff just got my renewal its going up from £23 to £49 and I doubt retentions will match Talktalk.

As an ex NTL ENGINEER things have changed a lot since i was installing the old blue cable modems back in the day standards have gone right down and prices right up!

Hello Omen_Data_Syste

Thanks for your post

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

The Big Talk and Big Data planes will be defunct along with the pay as you go service
