I was using a tplink 4g router in August after receiving my sim and they just suspended it without contacting me last week - the person selling it didn’t cover off in the discussion that this is not allowed - it was great for the family for sharing on holiday in Sussex but trying to get it reactivated has been a 5 day pain. I am getting a call tomorrow from the team to hopefully sort it out.

First post I've read about anyone being suspended because of using a router/tethering, hopefully that was not the real reason?.

If it was and the call was recorded and it was left out - then that's a great way to get the contract terminated for mis selling.

Re: Ultimate oomph sim question

Still not sorted - they cannot find the information in their t&c’s and neither can I as yet. Logged an complaint and promised a call within 72 hours - it’s been another 4 days since then -  With zero contact. Data sim still not working - an absolute shambles.

All references to Tethering - using in router was removed something like getting on 2 years ago from the T&C's, the Oomph T&C's just point to the normal sim-only T&C's.

So sounds like they have forced a T&C on you which does not even exist, make a firm stand for compensation when they finally get their heads screwed on.

Re: Ultimate oomph sim question

My oomph unlimited sim that has been used for tethering for the last month, has been suspended. I rang customer services who informed that I had breached terms and conditions. When I asked which terms I had broken, the agent couldn’t answer me. The infuriating thing is I specifically asked if there was tethering restrictions when taking out the oomph bundle, to which I was told there are no restrictions. I looked up terms and conditions, and there is no mention of limited tethering or a ‘fair use policy’.  Someone is supposed to be contacting me within the next 48 hours. I doubt anyone will contact me. This is poor from Virgin.

Re: Ultimate oomph sim question

I couldn't see anything about tethering, however I did find this at the following link Acceptable Use Policy

3.7    Your mobile SIM card is for use in a personal mobile or mobile broadband device, such as a dongle or mobile Wi-Fi device.  It is not intended for use in any other type of device, including 4G routers. We reserve the right to suspend your services if we believe abuse is taking place and if you are using an unlimited tariff, we may ask you to move to a plan with a fixed data allowance.

Re: Ultimate oomph sim question

I find it weird how they seem to be enforcing this. I had my sim in my Audi’s onboard Wi-fi hotspot for a week travelling through Wales. With the kids and the wife streaming they clocked up over 250gb that week and I had nothing from them. Maybe because my usage is normally really small.

Re: Ultimate oomph sim question

Well the advertising words of "Neverend-ing, Truly Unlimited" seems to have gone out of the window now 🤔

Re: Ultimate oomph sim question

My complaint is still ongoing - the complaint handler couldn’t provide any definitive information and now needed to go away to find out and ask a specialist. He said I can’t use a tplink router that can tether up to 10 users but I can put it in a phone/tablet which can also tether up to 10 people - utterly confusing.

simple fact is that if a tplink mobile router or huawei broadband router is not allowed it is a significant exclusion that should be highlighted at the point of sale so that an informed choice can be made by the consumer prior to purchase. Virgin have failed in this regard to highlight a significant exclusion and I see it as non transparent and unfair to the consumer.

Your tplink mobile router falls within the Acceptable Use Policy posted earlier, as it is a mobile Wi-Fi device?
